President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy congratulated the opposition Tisza party and its leader Peter Magyar on their victory in the Hungarian elections.
According to European Truth, he published a congratulatory message in Hungarian, English and Ukrainian in his X on the night of April 13, the PromPolitInform portal informs.
Zelensky congratulated Magyar and his political force TISZA “with a convincing victory” in the parliamentary elections in Hungary on April 12.
“Ukraine has always sought good neighborly relations with everyone in Europe, and we are ready to develop cooperation with Hungary. Europe and every European state must become stronger, and millions of Europeans want cooperation and stability. We are ready for meetings and joint constructive work for the benefit of both peoples, as well as for the sake of peace, security and stability in Europe,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
Just hours after the polls closed, Prime Minister Viktor Orban, after 16 years in power, conceded defeat and congratulated his rivals on their victory. He stated this at a rally of his supporters in Budapest.
Orban made the announcement after the first data from the National Election Commission showed a huge gap between the election participants in favor of the opposition Tisa.
The election results are not yet final, but clear and obvious. The result for us is painful and unequivocal: we were not given the opportunity to continue to lead the country. I congratulated the winning party, “he said.
The opposition Tisza party, led by Peter Magyar, will form a sole majority and control more than two-thirds of the votes in the Hungarian Parliament.
According to the results of the calculation of 98.93% of the vote, Tisa gained 69.35%. Consequently, they receive 138 seats in parliament, which is enough to form a constitutional majority (133 seats are needed). Fidesz, led by Viktor Orban, is gaining 27.64 percent and receives 55 mandates.
Until recently, the defeat of Orban and the landslide victory of the Tisa, not to mention the constitutional majority, did not look like a guaranteed scenario. The opportunity to gain such an advantage appeared after it became known about the actions of government officials, which could be treason in favor of Russia.
- In the elections in Hungary, a record turnout was recorded: 77.8% of all voters voted.
