Ending the war: Zelensky named the main conditions for a bilateral meeting with Putin

During the historic visit of the Honduran leader to Kyiv, President Volodymyr Zelensky unexpectedly suggested the possibility of holding a bilateral meeting with the Kremlin leader and named the fundamental conditions for resuming peace talks.

Kyiv outlined the key conditions for the possible resumption of peace talks and holding a bilateral meeting with the Russian leadership. The main requirement for starting this diplomatic dialogue is the mandatory presence of Western partners to provide security guarantees. This is reported by TSN, was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during a joint press conference after a meeting with the Honduran leader in Kyiv on Friday, June 19. Negotiation format and participation of international partners

Volodymyr Zelensky expressed firm confidence that the rounds of peace talks with the Russian side will definitely resume in the near future. Currently, European allies are actively advocating for the creation of a joint diplomatic track with the participation of American representatives.

“I believe in a bilateral meeting, but there must be partners, because there are many things that Ukraine is counting on: security guarantees after the end of the war, membership in the European Union,” he emphasized.

Security guarantees and the European future

The head of state emphasized that all international allies also fully support the peace plan that Kyiv had previously proposed. The presence of influential Western countries at the negotiating table is a critically important requirement for the Ukrainian authorities, although the Russians are left with the right to choose the final format.

He emphasized that our country expects to receive reliable security guarantees from leading world players that will forever make it impossible for armed aggression to be repeated in the future. In addition, full-fledged membership in the European Union remains one of Ukraine’s fundamental goals in this dialogue.

We will remind, the German Chancellor rejected compromises regarding negotiations with the Kremlin behind Kyiv’s back. Merz stated that Europe would not be a neutral mediator, and emphasized that Kyiv would exclusively form the composition of the international team of negotiators.
