32 years ago, the “Alpha” Special Operations Center of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) was established. Today, it is one of the most effective units of the Security and Defense Forces of Ukraine, destroying the enemy both on the front line and deep behind their lines
Today, June 23, 2026, Ukraine honors the warriors of the “Alpha” Special Operations Center of the Security Service of Ukraine. A unit that has remained a symbol of professionalism, courage, and uncompromising struggle for the state for 32 years.
Over the years of full-scale war, “Alpha” has become one of the most efficient units of the Security and Defense Forces of Ukraine. And these are not just lofty words. Behind them lie concrete results measured in thousands of destroyed enemy targets and saved Ukrainian lives.
When Russian occupiers think they have hidden hundreds of kilometers away from the front line, when they consider their headquarters, depots, or positions unreachable – “Alpha” steps in. These are people who have proven a simple truth for years: for professionals, no target is unreachable. Behind the dry statistics lie professionalism, courage, and a daily fight for Ukraine.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the fighters of the SBU “Alpha” SOF have destroyed:
1,896 tanks;
3,458 armored fighting vehicles;
344 multiple-launch rocket systems;
3,952 artillery systems;
649 air defense systems;
540 electronic warfare and reconnaissance systems;
23,517 UAVs and ground robotic complexes.
A separate figure that deserves special attention – up to 20% of all enemy infantry losses are attributed to the warriors of “Alpha.”
The modern “Alpha” is no longer just assault groups. It includes attack drone operators, scouts, countersnipers, analysts, and special operations specialists who work on the front line and deep behind enemy lines. It is they who have repeatedly proven that the Russian rear is no longer a safe place for the aggressor.
It is no coincidence that the SBU “Alpha” SOF has been ranked first for three consecutive months in the rating of units for the destruction of enemy personnel and equipment using unmanned systems.
Behind every successful operation lie not only technologies and modern weapons. First and foremost – people. People with high motivation, exceptional training, and powerful intellectual potential.
In the spring, I had the honor of working alongside “Alpha” fighters. And I can say frankly: the level of motivation, discipline, professional knowledge, and dedication to the cause of these warriors leaves a strong impression even on those who have long worked alongside the military.
A special testament to the unit’s courage and heroism is that 25 fighters of the “Alpha” SOF have been awarded the highest state honor – the title of Hero of Ukraine.
Today, we thank every warrior of the “Alpha” Special Operations Center for their service, professionalism, daily struggle, and results that bring our Victory closer.
We bow our heads in memory of those fighters of the unit who gave their lives for Ukraine.
Ukraine is proud of its special forces.
And the enemy knows very well why.
