The US State Department estimates that Ukraine is now at a point where it is winning the war. This, as reported by “European Truth“, was stated by Jeremy Levin, US Assistant Secretary of State for Foreign Assistance, Humanitarian Affairs, and Religious Freedom, at the “Ukrainian Dinner” organized in Gdansk on the eve of URC-2026 by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation. According to the Deputy Head of the State Department, Ukraine is now doing a lot to capture a new phase of the war and ultimately win it. According to his assessment, the situation has already been turned around.
“As of now, we are in a position where Ukraine is winning the war at this point,” said a US State Department official.
He noted that previously Ukrainian forces on the battlefield were waiting for winter, since the Russians were not advancing at this time and were taking a break. Now, according to him, the opposite is happening: the Ukrainians are on the offensive, and the Russians are waiting for winter.
At the same time, as Levin emphasized, even this winter the Ukrainians managed to “change the dynamics,” since in the winter the Ukrainians attacked Russian infrastructure on the territory of the Russian Federation.
“Now is a very important moment. Ukraine can continue to exert pressure on the battlefield,” Levin also stated.
He also recalled that the States is considering the possibility of canceling the exemption from sanctions on Russian oil and assured that Washington will continue to cooperate with European partners on the issue of sanctions.
According to the FT, last week in France at the G7 summit, US President Donald Trump told Volodymyr Zelensky that he was impressed by Kyiv’s recent military successes.
The media also reported that Trump advised President Volodymyr Zelensky in a private conversation to act “bolder” towards Russia.
