For eight months, the Chervonohrad coal enrichment factory has remained idle due to legal proceedings and management issues. This causes a decline in state-owned mines of the Lviv-Volyn basin and creates risks for the heating season. This is reported by RBC-Ukraine (Сергій Новіков). The portal PromPolitInform reports.
The eight-month downtime of the Chervonohrad coal enrichment factory directly worsens the financial standing of state-owned mines in the Lviv-Volyn basin. Local enterprises are deprived of the ability to properly sell extracted fuel without preliminary processing.
Coal from local mines requires mandatory enrichment before being utilized at thermal power plants. When the facility is non-operational, the extracted fuel is harder to commercialize, and mines fail to receive funds.
«Therefore, these eight months are actually the downtime of these mines. Because a non-working factory is precisely what causes this decline that is taking place», — said Mykhailo Bondar.
State-owned mines are forced to rely solely on government support
Due to the lack of revenue from product sales, the enterprises heavily depend on state financial assistance. Employees do not receive salaries generated from actual production output.
«People do not receive wages from realized products, they actually receive them only from the state: this state support that arrives. Accordingly, there are no funds for the ongoing, daily operation of these mines», — noted Mykhailo Bondar.
The situation around the Chervonohrad facility has escalated amidst a protracted rehabilitation procedure for PJSC Lviv Coal Company, management problems, wage arrears, and the actual halt of production processes. Due to court disputes over appointing a new manager, the enterprise has been idle for 8 months.
The situation creates additional risks for the heating period
Lawmakers emphasize the critical nature of the situation for the country’s energy security. Delays in coal shipments reduce the nation’s capacity to build up necessary fuel reserves for the winter.
