From August 5, the Czech Republic requires Ukrainian men aged 23-60 to confirm the legality of their departure from Ukraine and the fulfillment of military requirements to receive temporary protection.
In the first days of the new order, the authorities have already denied several dozen Ukrainians who were subject to military service. This, writes NV, reports Novinky.cz. on Wednesday, August 12. The PromPolitInform portal informs.
According to the Czech Ministry of Internal Affairs’ migration expert, the men were unable to confirm either the legality of their departure or their military service.
You can confirm your status using data from the Ukrainian electronic military record book, and officials can also take into account a stamp on leaving the country. Previously, such checks were not carried out when granting temporary protection – the new rules were agreed upon by the EU member states.
Over the past year, the number of Ukrainian men aged 18 to 65 in the Czech Republic has increased by more than 21,200, to approximately 132,000, while the number of women in this age group (about 160,300) has remained almost unchanged.
The Czech Republic remains the leader among the EU countries in the number of Ukrainian refugees accepted – the country currently has more than 396,000 Ukrainians with temporary protection. The Ministry of Internal Affairs explained the tightening of requirements by the significant burden on the state infrastructure and expects that the new procedure will reduce the influx of Ukrainian men into the country.
On July 15, the EU member states agreed to extend the temporary protection mechanism for Ukrainians who left the country due to the war until March 4, 2028. On July 30, the EU Council approved the extension of the regime by written procedure and changed the conditions for military applicants.
