A soldier who went AWOL committed a murder in the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv

In Kyiv, police detained a 34-year-old soldier who was absent without leave (AWOL) on suspicion of murdering his 61-year-old acquaintance. The crime took place during a conflict in an abandoned building in the Darnytskyi district of the city. This was reported by Politsiiu Kyieva, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

Law enforcement officers discovered the body of a 61-year-old local resident with signs of violent death on the street. A team of specialists from the Darnytskyi police department, cynologists, and forensic medical experts arrived at the scene to collect evidence and conduct initial investigative actions.

Circumstances of the conflict in the abandoned facility

It was preliminarily established that the victim was carrying out repair work in an abandoned building along with a 34-year-old acquaintance. After finishing their tasks, the men consumed alcoholic beverages, which subsequently led to an argument and a physical confrontation.

During the fight, the attacker struck the pensioner with his fists and also used a stick and a hammer. The victim died at the scene of the incident from head injuries before medics could arrive.

Classification of the crime and further investigative steps

After inspecting the scene, the police seized the weapons used in the crime and detained the suspect. Investigators notified the individual of suspicion of intentional murder under Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Procedural actions are currently underway. The soldier faces up to 15 years of imprisonment for committing this crime.
