An accumulator battery exploded overnight in a high-rise building in Lviv, causing a fire and destroying a wall between apartments. Emergency services evacuated six people from the danger zone, including two children. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing the Telegram channel of Derzhavnu Sluzhbu Z Nadzvychainykh Sytuatsii.
The incident occurred in one of the apartments of a multi-storey building, where a battery exploded. Upon the arrival of the firefighting units, thick black smoke was billowing from the windows, and the owner was trapped inside due to heavy smoke. Rescuers reached the man using an extension ladder and successfully evacuated him.
Consequences of the structural damage
The force of the explosion was sufficient to destroy the partition wall between the apartments. Due to the collapse of the adjacent wall, a family of two adults and two children was blocked in the neighboring flat. Emergency service specialists used a ladder to get inside the trapped apartment and bring the residents out to safety.
In parallel, rescuers, together with police officers, evacuated another woman from a neighboring smoke-filled apartment. In total, six people were saved during the operation.
Completion of the rescue operation
The fire caused by the battery explosion was completely extinguished. Medical workers who arrived at the scene examined all the evacuated residents. None of the rescued individuals required hospitalization, and they declined to be taken to the hospital.
