Pig iron exports fell 72% in July

In July, Ukraine's pig iron exports fell 72% to 51,500 tonnes. Over seven months, shipments decreased 0.55% year-on-year to 1.03 million tonnes.

This was reported by Delo.ua citing GMK Center, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

The decline reversed the growth the industry had shown in the first half of the year: Ukraine then exported 981,460 tonnes of pig iron, up 11.1% from the same period in 2025. June shipments stood at 183,780 tonnes, but fell to 51,500 tonnes in July.

In annual terms, July exports dropped 67%. Export revenue for seven months totalled $413 million, virtually unchanged from a year earlier — up just 0.4%. In July, however, it collapsed 70% month-on-month and 61% year-on-year to $24.1 million.

Ukrainian pig iron is increasingly dependent on the US market.

Over seven months, 900,600 tonnes were shipped to the United States — about 87% of all exports. Shipments to the US rose 8% from a year earlier.

Other markets are far smaller: Turkey — 83,200 tonnes, up 88%; Italy — 26,500 tonnes, down 75%.

In July, almost all exports also went to the US — 49,500 tonnes. That is 68% less than in June and 67% less than in July last year. Ukrainian pig iron has not been shipped to Italy since February.

For the industry, July marks a sharp reversal after a strong 2025.

Last year, Ukraine increased pig iron exports by 53.5% to 1.98 million tonnes, with the US again the main buyer, taking 1.33 million tonnes.
