Serviceman absent without leave to stand trial in Zhytomyr region for administering Viber channel about TCC

In the Zhytomyr region, law enforcement officers have referred to court the case against a serviceman absent without leave who administered a Viber channel about the movements of TCC and police patrols in Zviahel district. This was reported by Ukrinform citing the SBU Office in Zhytomyr region, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

The perpetrator organized the thematic community in April of the current year to inform about the locations of military commissariats. Group members published information in real time about places of potential conscription notices delivery and the movements of law enforcement officers.

Conscript-aged men used the resource to avoid contact with recruitment center representatives. The activity of this channel significantly facilitated evasion from mobilization measures in the respective territory.

Law enforcement officers identified the administrator of the online resource as a result of investigative and search operations. He turned out to be a 26-year-old resident of Zviahel, who a year ago voluntarily left his military unit and was hiding from service in his hometown.

During searches at the suspect’s residence, security forces seized a mobile terminal with evidence of illegal activity. The seized gadget was used to administer and coordinate the work of the Viber community.

Investigative bodies of the Security Service of Ukraine qualified the actions of the perpetrator under Part 1 of Article 114-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He is incriminated with obstructing the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations during a special period.

The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings has already been completed. The materials with the indictment have been submitted for consideration by the judicial instance.
