Oil and gas prices have surged in response to US strikes on Iranian targets
Iran has carried out a series of missile attacks against US military facilities in Jordan and Bahrain following American strikes on positions of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. As a result of the escalation in the Middle East, global energy prices have significantly increased. This was reported by Ynet citing Reuters, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
In response to the ongoing US operation, the Iranian side announced a “decisive” counterattack. According to available data, thirteen ballistic missiles were fired toward Jordan, targeting the Tabatin camp on the coast of the Gulf of Aqaba. Jordanian air defense forces intercepted ten targets, while the others landed in remote areas without causing harm to US personnel.
Simultaneously, drone attacks were reported in the region, targeting American bases in Bahrain. Washington has not yet confirmed any damage to infrastructure in Bahrain. Meanwhile, US Central Command confirmed that the airstrikes within Iran were a response to threats against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
Economic impact and threats
Regional tensions have caused a sharp spike in energy resource costs on global markets. The price of Brent crude rose by approximately 7%, reaching $94.5 per barrel, while the general price of oil climbed to $90. Natural gas prices in Europe also hit levels not seen since 2023.
US President Donald Trump emphasized that the American actions are aimed at neutralizing Iranian military capabilities, including air defense assets. He warned Tehran that the US is prepared for further escalation if aggressive actions continue, noting that the current conflict remains limited and is not aimed at a full-scale prolonged war.
Washington’s position
The US Embassy in Jerusalem issued a warning to American citizens in the region regarding potential flight disruptions and airspace closures. The diplomatic mission highlights a high probability of continued instability and urges increased vigilance due to the risk of attacks on American interests both in the Middle East and globally.
