Total export capacity is projected to reach 5 million barrels per day
Iraq plans to boost its oil exports via Syria and Türkiye's Ceyhan port to more than 1 million barrels. The announcement was made by Iraqi Oil Minister Bassem Mohammed Khudair. This was reported by SANA citing Iraqi News Agency, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
Iraq is currently exporting around 3 million barrels per day in September while remaining committed to its OPEC production ceiling. The country’s current production capacity does not exceed 4.2 million barrels per day.
Pipeline expansion projects
The government plans to raise overall export capacity to 5 million barrels per day after completing strategic pipelines extending toward Faysh Khabur and Baniyas. Additional export outlets will also operate through the Strait of Hormuz.
Bilateral agreements
Syria previously signed two memoranda of understanding with Iraq and a consortium of international companies to rehabilitate the Kirkuk-Baniyas crude oil pipeline. This strategic step aims to reactivate a major regional energy link.
