Daily defense expenditures rose from $140 million in 2024 to $190 million in 2026
Chair of the Verkhovna Rada Budget Committee Roksolana Pidlasa stated that Ukraine's daily war expenses have increased to $190 million. A significant portion of the additional $27 billion defense requirement is allocated for weapons procurement. This was reported by Glavcom citing Euronews, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
According to Roksolana Pidlasa, the intensity of combat operations and the need to increase domestic weapons production require significant funding increases. Compared to 2024, when the figure reached $140 million per day, the financial burden on the state budget has grown substantially.
Priority funding areas
The bulk of the funds, particularly from the additional $27 billion requirement, is planned to be spent on acquiring strike capabilities. This includes medium and long-range systems necessary for conducting strikes against Russian oil refinery facilities. Furthermore, the budget includes advance payments for equipment supply contracts that must be fulfilled by the end of 2026 and the beginning of 2027.
Arguments for international partners
The Budget Committee Chair emphasized that the rising cost of defense serves as an important signal to the US and European nations. She believes that a prolonged conflict only increases financial challenges for both Ukraine and allied states. This underscores the necessity for increased sanctions pressure on Russia to accelerate the end of hostilities.
Financial situation in the public sector
Currently, the state operates under a challenging fiscal environment that has persisted since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. According to reports, Ukraine requires approximately $50 billion in external assistance annually. Meanwhile, the projected deficit for 2027, excluding additional inflows, is already estimated at $32.6 billion.
