Servicemen with combat-related disabilities can sign a contract under specific requirements
Servicemen and discharged personnel recognized as unfit for military service by military medical commissions can, under certain conditions, sign or renew a contract. The VLK conclusion of unfitness alone does not serve as an automatic refusal for military service. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.
During martial law, concluding a contract or continuing service under it is permitted for drafted officers, mobilized servicemen, reservists, and citizens who have already been discharged from the Armed Forces. To achieve this, a candidate must simultaneously meet specific legal requirements, including mandatory Ukrainian citizenship and compliance with age limits for military service.
Health conditions and injury requirements
A key prerequisite is that diseases, injuries, battle wounds, or mutilations that caused a person to be declared unfit must have been sustained while defending the Homeland. Additionally, the candidate must have an established disability or partial loss of working capacity without an assigned disability group. If these criteria are met, such citizens may perform military service exclusively under a contract basis.
Medical limitations and prohibitions
There are distinct exceptions where signing a contract is prohibited due to health restrictions. In particular, the regulations do not apply to cases related to mental, sensory, or psychological impairments, as well as psychiatric and behavioral disorders. The exhaustive list of relevant medical restrictions is defined by the Regulation on Military Medical Expertise in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, approved by the order of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine No. 402 of August 14, 2008.
