The Cyber Police urge citizens to be cautious when exchanging a driver’s license and not to trust suspicious online offers.
This was reported by the Cyber Police of Ukraine via the PromPolitInform portal.
If you hold a paper-format driver’s license, do not rush to contact so-called “helpers” on social media or messaging apps. Scammers may offer to process a modern driver’s license online, without visiting a Ministry of Internal Affairs service center, while demanding advance payment and copies of documents.
As a result, the individual risks losing money and receiving a forged document that will not appear in state registries, the Driver’s Cabinet, or the “Diia” app.
At the same time, paper-format driver’s licenses issued in Ukraine before 1991 remain valid within Ukraine. Exchange is not mandatory. If desired, you can officially obtain a modern license by visiting a Ministry of Internal Affairs service center.
How to avoid falling for scammers?
Be cautious of offers if:
– communication occurs only via messaging app;
– they promise to process the license entirely online;
– they claim to “enter data into the database” without going through the official procedure;
– they demand advance payment to a private bank card;
– they pose as employees of a Ministry of Internal Affairs service center;
– they ask for photos of your passport or other documents.
Official services are not processed through random social media pages or private chats. Sending document photos and paying unknown individuals can lead to financial loss and misuse of your personal data.
If you encounter a suspicious advertisement or have already shared your data or money, save the correspondence, links, phone numbers, and other evidence, then report it to law enforcement or submit an electronic report on the Cyber Police website.
