Restoration of communications continues after large-scale shelling of infrastructure
Telecom operators in Ukraine are gradually restoring operations after Russian shelling damaged equipment and communication lines. Company workers are addressing the damage on site. This was reported by UkrRudProm, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
Russian strikes on telecommunications infrastructure have caused significant disruptions to the operations of communication operators in several regions of the country. According to authorities, base stations, fiber optic trunks, and service center equipment were damaged.
Extent of Damage
As a result of the attacks, more than ten critical communication facilities were destroyed or damaged. The largest losses were recorded in border and frontline cities, where infrastructure proved most vulnerable.
On-Site Operations
Engineering teams from telecom companies are working around the clock to restore communication lines. In particular, new base stations are being installed, damaged cables are being replaced, and backup equipment is being configured.
Rapid response allows partial coverage to be restored in damaged areas within hours of shelling. However, full restoration of some sections is expected to take several days.
Use of Backup Communication Channels
To ensure network resilience, operators are actively using alternative communication channels, including satellite and mobile networks. This helps maintain basic communications even in the event of large-scale damage to terrestrial infrastructure.
Additionally, some companies are deploying mobile stations to provide temporary coverage in areas where fixed facilities have been damaged. These solutions are being applied particularly in active combat zones.
Coordination with State Bodies
Telecom operators are cooperating with government agencies and security forces to coordinate restoration efforts. General directions for protecting critical infrastructure are determined at the level of central executive bodies.
Individual measures to improve network resilience are being implemented under state programs for digitalization and protection of critical infrastructure. These include modernizing equipment and developing backup communication channels.
