Moldova summons Russian Ambassador Oleg Ozerov over drone airspace violations

A Geran drone exploded near a highway, leaving a 30-centimeter-deep crater

On October 1, the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Russian Ambassador Oleg Ozerov regarding the violation of the country's airspace by drones on September 30. The incidents occurred during massive Russian attacks on Ukrainian territory. This was reported by NewsMaker, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

The Moldovan Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the actions of the Russian side, highlighting the serious threat to the safety of local residents. The ministry demanded an immediate end to the shelling of Ukrainian territories and any provocations that pose a danger to the Moldovan state.

Circumstances of the drone crash in the Orhei District

The most dangerous incident occurred on the evening of September 30 near the village of Branesti. A Geran-type unmanned aerial vehicle, equipped with a turbojet engine, crashed into trees and detonated just 10 meters from the G72 highway. The impact created a crater 30 centimeters deep, and the blast wave damaged forest plantations within a 30-meter radius.

Local police surveyed the area, discovering debris from a drone marked “Geran-4” over a significant area around the explosion site. Due to the incident, traffic on the road was temporarily restricted, and the airspace over central Moldova was closed to flights.

Violation of airspace

On the same day, September 30, law enforcement officials recorded two more instances of Russian weapons penetrating Moldovan airspace. One of the devices crashed and exploded near a residential area by the village of Hirbovet in the Anenii Noi District, resulting in no casualties.

Another object was spotted in the Lunga area of the Dubasari District, forcing authorities to implement security measures in the northern and central regions of the country. Previously, Russian Ambassador Oleg Ozerov acknowledged the likelihood that the drones discovered over Moldova were of Russian origin, but claimed that the attacks were intended exclusively for Ukraine.
