Government plans to adapt legislation to NATO and EU standards
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a bill initiated by the Ministry of Defence, which provides for updating the foundations of internal policy in the areas of national security and defense. The document is aimed at adapting legislation to modern geopolitical challenges and the state's European integration course. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.
The update concerns Article 6 of the Law “On the Foundations of Internal and Foreign Policy.” According to the proposed changes, the security and defense sector will be developed as a key instrument of state policy, covering all security force components with these foundations.
Defense sector priorities
The bill focuses on strengthening the defense-industrial complex. The government proposes stimulating the introduction of modern technologies and the development of closed-cycle production, in particular through cooperation with international partners.
Among other key tasks are the re-equipping of troops with the latest weapon models and the implementation of best practices from NATO member states and the European Union. A special emphasis is placed on ensuring equal rights for men and women during military service.
National resistance
Significant attention in the new version is given to the readiness of citizens for national resistance. This decision is a logical continuation of the nationwide defense training system, which the Verkhovna Rada had previously integrated into the educational process.
The Ministry of Defence emphasizes that updating the legislative framework is necessary due to the large-scale armed aggression and the changing security environment. The implementation of these initiatives should ensure the effective restoration of territorial integrity within Ukraine’s internationally recognized borders.
