The detained teenager was assembling an IED to target a ZSU soldier under orders from the russian federation
Counterintelligence officers of the Security Service of Ukraine have exposed a 16-year-old resident of Chernivtsi who was plotting a terror attack in Khmelnytskyi. The individual intended to target a ZSU soldier under the direction of russian intelligence services. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing the Telegram channel of Security Service of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, the teenager was searching for easy earnings on social media platforms, where he was recruited by russian handlers. Upon receiving specific instructions, he traveled to Khmelnytskyi to execute the criminal operation.
The perpetrator purchased the necessary components for an improvised explosive device and obtained TNT along with an electric detonator. He further enhanced the device with metal parts to increase its lethal impact.
To monitor the site where the explosive was hidden, the agent installed a remote camera on a nearby tree to transmit live data to his handlers in the russian federation. After concealing the rigged device, he attempted to flee the city.
Security Service officers apprehended the suspect at the local bus station as he was attempting to travel back to the Chernivtsi region. During the search, investigators confiscated his mobile phone, which contained evidence of his subversive activities.
The suspect has been officially charged with high treason committed under martial law. A court has ordered that he be held in custody without the possibility of bail.
If convicted, the russian agent faces the maximum penalty of life imprisonment with asset forfeiture. The procedural actions in this case were conducted with the oversight of the Khmelnytskyi Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
