Director Oleksii Komarovskyi: Skin cancer is a magical kick

The producer plans to shoot a sequel to Khreshchatyk and is working on new projects

Film producer and director Oleksii Komarovskyi discussed the success of his projects on international platforms and his experience fighting cancer. Despite a skin cancer diagnosis, the artist continues his work on new films and emphasizes the importance of re-evaluating life values. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine (Юлія Гаюк), according to the portal PromPolitInform.

Oleksii Komarovskyi began his career in a children’s theater in Chernivtsi, but he only turned to professional producing and directing at the age of 30. His film Khreshchatyk 48/2 achieved significant results on the global market: it was screened in 40 countries and made available on Amazon and Tubi platforms.

International distribution and industry challenges

To reach a global audience, the creators changed the project’s title to Office of Magical Forces, which made the content more understandable for international viewers. Komarovskyi notes that the Ukrainian film industry operates under extremely high-risk conditions where most films fail to break even, and funding relies primarily on the enthusiasm of fans and private patrons.

The director emphasizes that producing expensive genres, such as science fiction, requires integration into international technological processes, which is currently a difficult task for the local market. At the same time, he sees potential in dramedy and stories based on universal themes of human relationships that remain relevant for any audience.

Fighting the illness and new horizons

Recently, the producer publicly announced his skin cancer diagnosis, which he discovered accidentally during a medical check-up. He views this challenge as a kind of wake-up call from life that prompted him to rethink his time and priorities. Komarovskyi urges people to be attentive to their health and undergo timely diagnostics.

Despite the diagnosis, the director does not plan to halt his creative activity; on the contrary, he is working with increased intensity. In his opinion, the main lesson the artist has learned is the need to stay true to oneself, avoid wasting time, and maintain inner energy under any circumstances.
