The US President met with Kirill Dmitriev but avoided contact with the Ukrainian delegation
US President Donald Trump has confirmed that he held a meeting with the special representative of Russian leader Vladimir Putin, Kirill Dmitriev. At the same time, the American leader stated that he did not have any contact with the Ukrainian delegation. This was reported by Glavcom citing Reuters, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
The head of the White House did not disclose the content of his conversation with the Russian official. However, Donald Trump asserted that the war between Russia and Ukraine is nearing its conclusion.
According to the American president, future agreements should be comprehensive and extend beyond solely Ukrainian issues. Trump believes that the final deal could encompass security aspects for the entire European continent.
Context of the talks at the White House
The US president did not officially voice the conditions of a potential agreement. He also specifically noted that there was no meeting with the Ukrainian delegation, which includes the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets and the head of the Servant of the People parliamentary faction David Arakhamia.
It should be noted that on November 5, a meeting between representatives of Ukraine and Russia took place at the White House, with US First Lady Melania Trump in attendance. This event followed a humanitarian operation in the occupied town of Oleshky, Kherson region, which was preceded by a local ceasefire.
The Kremlin’s stance on US elections
Meanwhile, the Russian leadership is commenting on how internal political processes in the United States might affect the war. Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov stated that the results of the US Congressional elections would not change the foreign policy course pursued by Donald Trump.
Previously, journalists asked the Kremlin spokesperson whether the Republican defeat could influence Moscow’s calculations regarding a peaceful resolution to the war in Ukraine. The Russian official denied that there was any such dependence for the Kremlin’s official policy.
