Daily US spending on Iran war reaches $2 billion.
Daily US spending on Iran war amounts to $2 billion – in less than two weeks, this colossal amount would be enough to finance a plan to save 87 million people around the world. This was stated by the head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs Tom Fletcher during a speech at the London think tank Chatham House, Dengi.ua reports. PromPolitInform portal informs.
“For every day of this conflict, $2 billion is spent. My full plan to save 87 million people costs $23 billion. We could finance it in less than two weeks of this reckless war. But now – we can’t,” Fletcher stressed.
How the war in Iran is affecting the global humanitarian crisis
According to Fletcher, the OCHA budget has been cut by 50% – to about $20 billion instead of the required $23 billion. This comes against the backdrop of a rapid increase in humanitarian needs around the globe.
The head of the agency warned that the war in Iran is already having a devastating global effect: inflation for food and fuel is approaching 20%. Its consequences will be felt for years in East Africa and sub-Saharan countries, pushing millions of people beyond the threshold of extreme poverty.
Normalization of the language of violence: what is the threat of the rhetoric of “bombing to the Stone Age”
Fletcher also warned the world community against normalizing aggressive political rhetoric – in particular, direct threats to “bomb to the Stone Age”.
“This is very dangerous. This gives freedom to all other aspiring dictators in the world to use the same language and tactics – to destroy civilian infrastructure and civilians, which is an absolute violation of international law,” he noted.
The UN’s relationship with the Trump administration: “a real roller coaster”
The diplomat described the working relationship with Donald Trump’s team as “a real roller coaster.” According to his observation, most of the key representatives of the administration have a rich background in real estate, not in classical diplomacy – which forms a fundamentally different, tough approach to negotiations.
“People from the diplomatic sphere like order, stability and process. The Trump administration believes that chaos is more effective. Unpredictability, which throws both opponents and friends off balance – they believe that this is how they achieve more. We’ll see,” Fletcher concluded.
We previously wrote that since the beginning of the armed conflict with Iran, the US military aviation has irretrievably lost at least seven manned aircraft.
We also wrote that the United States spent more than $44.5 billion during the 39 days of the Epic Fury military operation against Iran, and this amount continues to grow by one billion every day.
