In Kyiv, an agreement was signed on the Brave Germany program, and Berlin confirmed further funding for air defense, deep strike and drone units.
Defense Ministers of Ukraine and Germany Mikhail Fedorov and Boris Pistorius signed a letter of intent in Kyiv to launch the Brave Germany program, a joint initiative to develop defense technologies and support innovative startups.
This is according to the results of the visit of Boris Pistorius to Kyiv, Ukrinform reports, informs the portal PromPolitInform.
One of the key areas of cooperation will be the joint development and production of drones of various ranges, in particular long-range drones with a range of up to 1,500 kilometers.
“This, of course, is especially true for the joint development and production of drones with different ranges – from less than 100 km to 1500 km,” said German Federal Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.
According to him, long-range drones are critical for strikes on Russian military infrastructure and overloading Russian air defense systems.
Launch of Brave Germany Innovation Support Platform
Pistorius also said that Germany plans to join the Ukrainian Brave1 platform to support defense innovation.
“Innovation developers who can present promising products will receive financial support through this platform,” he said.
Mykhailo Fedorov during the briefing stressed that Germany is now the main partner of Ukraine in the field of security assistance.
“Today, Germany is the number one country in the world in terms of security assistance to Ukraine. It is about a third of all assistance to our country,” Fedorov said.
He also thanked Berlin for supporting Ukrainian air defense, in particular for funding missiles for Patriot, IRIS-T systems and interceptor drones.
According to Fedorov, it was thanks to the support of Germany that Ukraine was able to pass the winter period of massive attacks on critical infrastructure.
“In the winter, on the personal initiative of Mr. Boris, a PAC-3 package for our country was initiated at Ramstein. It was an unprecedented initiative,” he said.
Germany finances new missile contract for Ukraine
Fedorov also said that Germany has already begun to finance a new major contract for missiles for Ukraine, the deliveries of which will start next year.
Separately, Berlin will finance the directions of middle strike and deep strike, which in Ukraine are called “long-range sanctions.”
“Middlestrikes allow today to interrupt the logistics of our enemy,” Fedorov emphasized.
In addition, Germany allocated the first funds to support the drone assault units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine.
Pistorius noted that such units allow Ukraine to effectively deter the Russian army and return the territory.
“It is thanks to this that you surprised the Russian army again and again and returned the territories,” the German Defense Minister said.
Fedorov also said that the Ukrainian army is gradually exhausting Russian forces.
“Russia lacks the strength to continue offensive operations. The Ukrainian army is exhausting the Russians,” the minister said.
According to him, Ukraine also seized the initiative in the field of deep strike and continues to move according to the plan agreed at the last meeting in the Ramstein format.
