The fastest way to end the war is a ceasefire and negotiations, but without concessions to Ukrainian territories. This, writes ArmyINFORM, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an interview with Sky News. The PromPolitInform portal informs.
During the conversation, the journalist asked whether Ukraine would agree to a cessation of hostilities if the front line remained where it is now.
In response, Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that this is not about “freezing” the war, but about the first step towards its end.
“We want to live in Ukraine, not just stop the war. We want to stop it so that the war does not return after some pause,” the President noted.
According to him, a ceasefire could save people’s lives, make it possible to return the military home and create conditions for a diplomatic settlement.
At the same time, the head of state emphasized: this is not about giving the occupied territories to Russia.
“No, it’s not just giving. I mean stopping where we are. It means giving the people of Ukraine more opportunities to save their children, and the soldiers more opportunities to return,” he explained.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine has already defended its independence, sovereignty, and the right to independently determine its own future. This is what he called the main result of the struggle, although he admitted that it is not easy to talk about victory today because of the losses.
The president also noted that the ceasefire should be complete and controlled by international partners — with the participation of the United States, European states, and other countries ready to join the monitoring.
Only after that, in his opinion, can we move on to the next stage — negotiations on ending the war, a just peace, restoring the country, and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
“The first step is a ceasefire,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy concluded.
