Ukraine expects to complete the creation of its own FREYJA (Freya) missile defense system in the first half of 2027. This was stated by Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council David Aloyan, RBC-Ukraine reports with reference to Reuters. The PromPolitInform portal informs.
According to him, this is a prototype of a European missile defense system.
Currently, Kyiv is actively calling on its allies to join the process of its development.
Aloyan confirmed to journalists that the first meeting of the international steering committee will take place soon. It is he who should estimate the costs of research and development of the system.
Leaders of 10 European countries, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, as well as about a dozen defense manufacturers gathered at a summit in Paris two weeks ago to officially launch the missile defense coalition.
“Since we are working on such a tight schedule, we have an ambitious goal – to have a ready MVP (minimum viable product – ed.) in the first half of next year,” Aloyan said.
As he explained, we are talking about a prototype that will be able to demonstrate the first practical results.
It is important to understand that currently Ukraine is chronically dependent on American Patriot air defense systems, which are the only weapon in its arsenal capable of shooting down Russian ballistic missiles.
