Acting Minister of Defence of Ukraine Yevhenii Khmara met with UK Defence Secretary Wes Streeting on August 6, 2026. Ukraine counts on the continuation of long-term support from the United Kingdom in key defense areas, specifically sky protection, aviation capabilities, and countering Russian drones. This was discussed during the negotiations between Acting Minister of Defence of Ukraine Yevhenii Khmara and UK Defence Secretary Wes Streeting. The British side guarantees stable assistance to Ukraine of at least £3 billion per year.
The meeting was also attended by Acting Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Brigadier General Serhii Sobko and an intelligence representative. They briefed the delegation on the frontline situation, current threats, and the pressing needs of the defense forces. Yevhenii Khmara thanked the United Kingdom for its systematic support.
Protecting the Ukrainian skies from ballistic and cruise missiles remains the primary priority. The state requires accelerated delivery of radars and the development of a radar grid to protect cities and critical infrastructure. Aviation capabilities became a separate topic of the negotiations.
The parties agreed on steps regarding fighter jet deliveries and counter-drone measures
The meeting participants discussed the project of supplying Gripen aircraft with Meteor missiles to counter guided bomb carriers. The parties also focused on countering Russian attack UAVs within the framework of agreements to supply hundreds of anti-drone missiles this year. Financing the production of Ukrainian drones is another major focus.
Ukraine expects increased funding for drone manufacturing, particularly through revenues from frozen Russian assets. Such solutions allow for the faster scaling of capabilities that have proven their effectiveness on the battlefield. The parties agreed to continue developing a long-term defense partnership between the two nations.
