Ukraine and Poland discussed increasing agricultural transit through Polish port terminals amid russian attacks on Greater Odesa port infrastructure. Ukraine and Poland held talks on increasing the transit of Ukrainian agricultural products through Polish terminals amid systematic attacks by russia on the port facilities of Greater Odesa. This became known following a meeting between the leadership of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine and representatives of the Embassy of Poland in Ukraine.
The parties are considering the possibility of redirecting cargo through the seaports of Gdańsk, Gdynia, Szczecin, and Świnoujście. At the same time, specialized experts are to carry out a detailed calculation of the economic feasibility and cost of such logistics routes.
The participants of the negotiations paid special attention to the development of border infrastructure and the throughput capacity of routes.
In addition to the maritime direction, the meeting participants discussed expanding the throughput capacity of automobile and railway checkpoints at the border. This should ensure uninterrupted transit of Ukrainian products to European markets.
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food emphasized that due to complications in maritime exports, the shortage of storage capacities for the harvest may reach from 7.5–8 million to 11 million tonnes in November.
The agencies also raised the issue of financial support for the agricultural sector amid crisis logistics.
A separate topic of the talks was the financing of Ukrainian farmers who, due to export problems, risk facing a shortage of working capital. These funds are critically necessary for carrying out autumn field work and preparing for the next sowing campaign.
