A bipartisan bill on sanctions against Russia and Iran, previously approved by the US Senate, has been introduced in the House of Representatives. The document provides for tariffs of up to 500% on goods from Russia, as well as restrictions against banks and the Kremlin's shadow fleet. This is reported by RBC-Ukraine (Катерина Коваль), the portal PromPolitInform reports.
A bipartisan bill regarding sanctions against the Russian Federation and Iran has been submitted for consideration to the US House of Representatives. Earlier, this document received backing in the Senate, where 86 lawmakers voted in favour of it.
For the initiative to become law, both chambers of the American parliament must approve it in identical wording. The text submitted to the lower chamber completely matches the one previously passed by senators, which will allow it to be sent to President Donald Trump for signature immediately after approval by congressmen.
The voting date in the lower chamber has not yet been officially announced, but the high level of bipartisan support creates favourable conditions for its adoption. The document titled «Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026» was introduced to the House of Representatives by Congressman and Ukrainian Caucus Co-Chair Brian Fitzpatrick.
What restrictions does the document provide for
Anti-Russian measures include a ban on new American investments and the purchase of Russian sovereign debt, as well as sanctions against key banking institutions. In addition, the legislation targets the shadow fleet used to transport oil in circumvention of existing bans.
The draft law permits the imposition of tariffs of up to 500% on Russian products and up to 100% on goods from states that actively purchase energy resources from Russia or facilitate the evasion of restrictions. Lifting the sanctions will only be possible after the conclusion of a peace agreement acceptable to the Ukrainian side and the cessation of hostilities.
In parallel, European partners are also stepping up pressure on Moscow against the backdrop of new attacks against Ukraine. Specifically, the European Union has expanded its own sanctions list by adding five more individuals to it.
