The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has explained to manufacturers the list of documents required for the codification of weapons and military equipment elements. A complete and properly prepared documentation package is necessary for official authorization for use in the defence forces. The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has published a list of documents that defence industry enterprises must prepare for the codification of weapons and military equipment elements. The timely and correct preparation of this package directly affects the speed at which samples are approved for operation in the Defence Forces.
To initiate the review procedure, manufacturers need to compile technical documentation. This includes drawings, technical specifications, and other details of the working design documentation.
Operational documentation and proof of specifications
Operational documentation, which is required for proper accounting and deployment by units, forms a separate category. It comprises product passports, logbooks, and related materials.
In addition, developers must provide a cover letter detailing the purpose and tactical-technical characteristics of the element. If an upgraded item is being codified, test reports and materials confirming the claimed specifications must also be attached.
The importance of NATO codification
Codification is the process of granting a manufactured item the status of a supply item and organizing information about it. During this process, the product is entered into the Supply Catalogue and assigned a unique NATO Stock Number (NSN).
Only after completing all verification stages and receiving the stock number can military products be officially deployed by Ukrainian defenders.
