Profitability of the Ukrainian banking sector in the first half of 2026: 54 billion UAH

Solvent banks in Ukraine generated 54 billion UAH in net profit during the first half of 2026. The financial result was 32% lower than the previous year due to the application of an increased corporate tax rate. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from the National Bank of Ukraine.

In the first six months of 2026, the pre-tax profit of the banking system increased by 6.5% year-on-year. However, following the application of the 50% corporate tax rate, net profit amounted to 54 billion UAH, which is 32% less than in the same period of 2025.

High credit activity supports revenue

Stable profitability is provided by a high net interest margin of 7.8%. By expanding lending volumes and increasing the yield of credit portfolios, banks managed to maintain high asset efficiency, while funding costs remained almost unchanged.

In June, the share of interest income from loans reached 48.2% of the banks’ total interest income. Consequently, total net interest income for the half-year increased by 20.0% compared to the previous year.

Operational efficiency and reserves

Net fee and commission income for financial institutions also grew by 6.5%, driven by an increase in payment card operations. The cost-to-income ratio (CIR) remains high at 41.5%.

At the same time, provisioning increased 2.6 times, reaching pre-war levels. The increased tax burden on profits in 2026 negates the positive effect of higher bank capitalization, which constrains their future credit potential.
