President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with representatives of UNESCO and international partners during the celebration of the 975th anniversary of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. The discussions focused on strengthening the protection of cultural heritage and expanding international cooperation. During the celebrations marking the 975th anniversary of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, the head of state emphasized the importance of consolidating efforts to counter military threats. According to him, the current measures are insufficient to completely stop the aggression and ensure the safety of cultural monuments.
Expanding international support for cultural sites
The Ukrainian side is initiating an increase in the number of cultural heritage sites under the auspices of UNESCO. Obtaining such status would provide additional mechanisms for funding restoration and international stewardship over the monuments.
A separate emphasis was placed on the need to implement new political and economic sanctions against the aggressor. Such steps should become a tool for preserving Ukrainian heritage in the temporarily occupied territories, including Crimea.
