Ukrainian special services liquidated the man involved in the murder of Maksym Shapoval in Donetsk

Oleh Shutov was also responsible for the liquidation of Colonel Oleksandr Kharaberyush

Ukrainian special services conducted a special operation in occupied Donetsk, resulting in the liquidation of Oleh Shutov. He was the perpetrator behind the murder of intelligence officer Maksym Shapoval and SBU Colonel Oleksandr Kharaberyush. This was reported by LB.ua, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

The liquidation of the criminal took place on July 27 as a result of an explosion of his Subaru vehicle near the Dynamo sports complex in the Leninsky district of Donetsk. The operation was carried out by Ukrainian special services using an improvised explosive device, and information about the event was withheld until the combat group safely returned to Ukrainian-controlled territory.

Circumstances of Oleh Shutov’s liquidation

Oleh Shutov performed tasks as part of the so-called Special Operations Center of the DNR MGB, a structure that previously reported to Russian special services and was absorbed by the local FSB directorate in 2024. The occupation administration attempted to frame the incident as a drone attack, concealing the actual reasons for the death of the head of the wrestling federation.

Connection to high-profile murders

Shutov’s role in the assassination of Major General Maksym Shapoval first became known in the spring of 2019. The then-head of the SBU, Vasyl Hrytsak, stated that the perpetrator had prepared for the crime in advance by renting an apartment and a parking space directly in the building where the GUR officer lived. After the explosion in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district on June 27, 2017, the suspect immediately fled to the territory of the Russian Federation.

FSB as the mastermind behind attacks

The investigation established Shutov’s involvement in the death of Colonel Oleksandr Kharaberyush in Mariupol in March 2017 as well. Ukrainian special services note that the organizers of these attacks were Lieutenant General Dmitriy Minayev, who led the FSB’s counterintelligence operations department, and the head of the DNR MGB Special Operations Center, Vasiliy Evdokimov, known by the nickname “Lenin”.
