A jet drone hit a locomotive in Yagodyn 15 minutes after the crew was evacuated
Russian forces continue to exert systemic pressure on Ukraine’s transport infrastructure, targeting key railway hubs and rolling stock. The latest series of attacks affected both central regions and border areas that provide international connectivity with European Union countries.
In particular, the aggressor struck a railway infrastructure facility in the Vinnytsia region. The impact caused a fire at the civilian site. As reported by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine on their official Telegram channel, rescue units promptly extinguished the fire, and there were no casualties or injuries.
Attack on Yagodyn station and the evacuation of diplomats
Simultaneously, an enemy drone hit an Ukrzaliznytsia locomotive directly near the state border with Poland. The rolling stock was hit at Yagodyn station. According to data released by the railway operator via Telegram, the incident occurred immediately after a special diplomatic train carrying European officials and former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson had departed the station.
At the same time, another train carrying former CIA Director David Petraeus was at the station during the attack. The threat was identified in advance thanks to the work of experts from the Central Monitoring Group. Dispatchers issued an urgent evacuation order for the crew 15 minutes before the jet drone hit the locomotive.
Operational schedule adjustments and safety
Representatives of Ukrzaliznytsia do not rule out that the diplomatic train was the primary target of the enemy strike. The special train left the station ahead of schedule due to security protocols: the company is forced to change routes and schedules in real-time, considering the risks of attacks in specific areas.
The railway administration has urged passengers and staff to strictly follow instructions during air raid alerts. Despite regular shelling of civilian objects, the logistics system continues to function and evaluate risks based on security service guidance.
The economic role of the Vinnytsia region
Strikes on the railway network in the Vinnytsia region are of particular importance given its role in the relocation of Ukrainian business. As reported by the head of the Vinnytsia Regional Military Administration, Serhiy Borzov, on his Telegram channel, the region has processed 1,000 applications from enterprises that expressed readiness to move their production facilities from high-threat combat zones.
According to the head of the regional administration, nearly 50 enterprises have already been relocated to the region, with 18 having fully resumed operations. The resilience of logistics routes and railway arteries remains a critical condition for maintaining economic activity in central Ukraine.
