The US President intends to establish a dedicated Artificial Intelligence Force
US President Donald Trump has announced the appointment of a special official responsible for artificial intelligence. The head of state urged technology corporations to continue active development, dismissing concerns about potential threats to humanity. This was reported by Ukrinform citing Bloomberg, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
The White House head emphasized that the development of artificial intelligence acts as a new industrial revolution with the potential to significantly impact the economy and contribute up to 25% of the US GDP. The American leader described the position of skeptics, who view the technology as an existential risk, as unfounded and compared it to the panic surrounding climate issues.
Initiative to create an Artificial Intelligence Force
Despite calls from executives at leading companies such as Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta Platforms to slow down the development of the most advanced models, Donald Trump categorically rejected such proposals. He intends to initiate the formation of an Artificial Intelligence Force, modeled after the US Space Force.
This policy is justified by the need to stay ahead of China and maintain the global leadership of the United States in the technology sector. The president expressed his conviction that the country already holds the lead in this industry and will continue to actively support the rapid advancement of innovation.
Oversight of technology development
The decision by the American leader has caused concern among some lawmakers, particularly those from the Democratic Party, who are pushing for increased government regulation of the sector. Critics point to incidents where automated AI agents gained unauthorized access to other companies’ systems, which they argue requires regulatory intervention for the sake of security.
It should be noted that at the beginning of the current term, the role of AI coordinator was assigned to David Sacks, co-founder of Craft Ventures. Although he later stepped down from that role, Sacks continues to serve as co-chair of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.
