The company has separated the functions of the head and the person responsible for nuclear safety
The Supervisory Board of Energoatom has selected Yurii Tkachuk as the new CEO and Pavlo Pavlyshyn as the Director of Nuclear Safety. The candidates were chosen based on the results of an independent competitive selection process that lasted from June to September 2026. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine.
The competitive selection for key management positions at JSC NAEK Energoatom was conducted with the involvement of the international consulting firm Korn Ferry. During the search for a CEO, 78 candidates from Ukraine and abroad were considered, with five contenders reaching the final list.
Updated corporate governance model
The introduction of two separate leadership positions is part of a new management strategy for the state-owned company. Previously, functions related to operational development and nuclear safety were concentrated in the hands of one person, but these areas have now been separated to strengthen oversight, aligning with the standards of international nuclear operators.
Minister of Economy and Environment Oleksandr Kravchenko emphasized that forming the leadership team through transparent competitions is a major milestone for Energoatom. According to him, the state will guarantee the independence of the management and the Supervisory Board within the framework of the chosen corporate governance model.
Distribution of powers and leadership experience
Chair of the Energoatom Supervisory Board Rumina Velshi explained that the CNO (Director of Nuclear Safety) will now have independent powers, allowing them to halt any actions at the enterprise that violate safety requirements. Yurii Tkachuk, who currently heads JSC Ukrgazvydobuvannia, will focus on the transformation and development of the energy company, bringing extensive experience in financial management and the modernization of large energy structures.
Pavlo Pavlyshyn, in turn, has over 30 years of experience in the nuclear industry. From 2012 to 2022, he managed the Rivne NPP, and his competencies cover the direct operation of power units, their modernization, and safety assurance. The official appointment of the selected professionals will take place after passing all necessary regulatory procedures, including obtaining a license for the Director of Nuclear Safety.
