The plant was reconnected to the 330 kV Ferrosplavna-1 line after a long outage
Specialists of Energoatom restored external power supply to the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP on September 7. The station is reconnected to the Ukrainian unified energy grid via the 330 kV Ferrosplavna-1 line. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing the Telegram channel of Energoatom.
The connection works at ZNPP were completed on September 7 at 19:02. Currently, the plant’s consumption is 11 MW, which is sufficient to meet its internal needs to maintain nuclear safety.
Restoration became possible after repair measures on the damaged power line were carried out. To ensure the safety of repair teams, a local ceasefire was agreed upon in the area of the repair works.
Prior to this, the ZNPP had been without external power supply for 18 days, starting from August 20. During this period, all critical plant systems were powered by backup diesel generators, which increased the risks of radiation incidents.
Energoatom emphasizes that operating the plant in generator-powered mode is dangerous for the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. Despite the repairs, full safety can only be guaranteed after the liberation of the facility from occupation forces.
The return of full control over the Zaporizhzhia NPP must occur with the participation of the legitimate operator, the national energy generating company Energoatom. Only under such conditions will it be possible to ensure stable operation of nuclear reactors and prevent technological disasters.
