RUSSIAS WAR AGAINST UKRAINE 20.09.2026 / author:
Five years into the war, the Kremlin has forgotten who started it, so now it only ‘responds’ to Ukrainian long-range sanctions

The Ministry of Defence of Russia has threatened to intensify strikes on Kyiv. It traditionally labeled targets as “military” and cited alleged Ukrainian attacks on Russian civilian infrastructure as the pretext.

This was written by Ivan Arefiev exclusively for the Prompolitinform portal.

Convenient accounting: leave your own invasion out of the equation and start the timeline only from the moment you are hit.

However, the Russian statement confirms only one thing—the threat of new strikes. It proves neither their accusations against Ukraine nor that future impacts will be limited exclusively to military targets.

The political calculation here is simple: force Ukrainians to ask “why are we provoking them?” and urge Europeans to call for yet another round of “restraint” from us.

In other words, we are being told to lie low while we are being killed. Preferably, we should even be grateful for the days without shelling.

Responsibility for Russian strikes lies with those who order, plan, and execute them. Ukrainian resistance does not transfer this responsibility onto Ukraine.

We take these threats seriously. We do not ignore air raid alerts. We support the military and strengthen our defenses.

And we will leave the Kremlin’s “we are only responding” narrative to their television. There, even the aggressor is a peacekeeper, and a fire at an oil refinery is all part of the plan.
