Eight energy facilities will receive additional engineering structures
The Cabinet of Ministers has allocated 50 million hryvnias from the state reserve fund to the Kherson Regional State Administration. The funding is intended to strengthen the security of critical energy facilities in the region. This was reported by Economichna Pravda citing the Ministry of Economy and Environment, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
The financial resources will come from the state reserve fund directly to the Kherson Regional State Administration. The funds will be used to construct engineering structures and install anti-drone protection for critical equipment.
Protection of critical facilities
These measures will cover eight important energy locations in the region to increase their resilience during attacks. The protection works are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026, which will help reduce risks to stable power supply for local communities.
The Kherson region faces daily shelling by Russian forces, making the reinforcement of the energy infrastructure of particular importance. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine Vitalii Kindrativ.
Consequences of infrastructure attacks
Enemy shelling has resulted in the city of Kherson currently receiving as much electricity as a single supermarket in Kyiv. In late August, Russian forces launched guided aerial bomb attacks on the Kherson Heat and Power Plant, which is the main heat source for the city.
The station suffered severe destruction as a result of the strikes on August 26 and August 27. The attacks completely destroyed and put out of operation all remaining heat and power generation equipment at the facility.
Preparation for the heating season
The upcoming winter could be the most difficult since the beginning of the full-scale invasion for Kherson, but the city is preparing. Overall readiness of centralized heat supply facilities currently stands at 85.5%, said Head of the Kherson City Military Administration Yaroslav Shanko.
