The MiG-29 pilot was conducting a mission to strike enemy positions
Captain Marat Mambetov, commander of a flight in the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade, known as the Ghost of Kyiv, has been killed in action. The pilot was flying a MiG-29 when his aircraft was struck by a Russian missile. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine (Іван Носальський) citing Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
Captain Marat Mambetov was on a combat sortie to deliver missile and bomb strikes against concentrations of Russian occupation forces. During the mission, the pilot’s aircraft was hit by enemy fire.
Following the missile strike, the Ukrainian defender attempted to eject. Despite the successful activation of the fighter’s emergency escape system, the officer could not be saved.

The officer served as a flight commander within the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade, known as the Ghost of Kyiv. The Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine officially confirmed the loss of the Ukrainian pilot.
