Zelenskyy outlines three security guarantee options considered by Ukraine

Kyiv is discussing Alliance membership and US guarantees with partners

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the state is considering three areas of security guarantees after the end of hostilities. He announced this during a joint press conference with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo in Kyiv. This was reported by Glavcom, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

The Head of State specified that this involves a comprehensive set of measures, which includes membership in the Alliance, direct commitments from the United States similar to Article 5, and assistance from European partners within a coalition of the willing. According to the Ukrainian leader, such a protection format will rely on the powerful potential of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Importance of the Ukrainian military

«We and our army are important for NATO. Just as NATO is very important for Ukrainian security», — said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

He added that such initiatives are currently being discussed with international partners in a working manner without elaboration. Furthermore, in the president’s view, integration into the North Atlantic bloc also serves russia’s security interests.

Diplomatic track

Separately, the Head of State emphasized that the russian side reportedly expresses support for the idea of holding trilateral negotiations involving representatives of Ukraine, the United States, and russia. Currently, the parties are coordinating possible calendar dates for this meeting at the negotiating team level.
