Martial law and mobilization in Ukraine to be extended until January 29, 2027

Parliament will consider the presidential decrees at the session on October 26

The Verkhovna Rada plans to once again extend martial law and general mobilization in Ukraine in the near future. The special legal regime is expected to be prolonged for 90 days, until January 29, 2027. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine (Ірина Гамерська) citing the Telegram channel of Yaroslav Zhelezniak, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

The relevant proposals from the head of state, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, are expected to be submitted to the parliamentary floor in the coming days. According to Member of Parliament Yaroslav Zhelezniak, the vote on these initiatives is scheduled for Monday, October 26. This decision will mark the 21st extension of the legal regime since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.

The prolongation mechanism of the legal regime

The current measures, adopted in the summer of 2026, expire on October 31. The prolongation process is implemented through the issuance of two separate decrees by the President: one on extending martial law and one on general mobilization measures. Following the signing of the documents by the President, they are submitted to the Verkhovna Rada for further approval.

For the changes to take effect, the parliament must vote to approve the President’s decrees. After receiving the support of the deputies, the new duration of the regime becomes legally binding throughout the territory of Ukraine.

Previous decisions of the Rada

The current period, ending in late October, was established by presidential decrees No. 596/2026 and No. 597/2026, signed in July 2026. At that time, lawmakers also supported the extension of the special legal regime for a period of 90 days.
