Kyiv has received the green light to begin formal procedures for joining the Nuclear Energy Agency
The Steering Committee of the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency has officially approved the initiative to start the procedure for Ukraine's accession to the organization. This decision paves the way for deepened cooperation in the field of nuclear energy. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.
As part of its strategic commitment to integration with international institutions, Ukraine is launching the official process of joining the Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA), which operates under the auspices of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. The Agency’s Steering Committee has granted approval to commence the relevant procedures.
Prospects for cooperation with the NEA
The Nuclear Energy Agency is involved in developing advanced safety standards and facilitates the exchange of experience among countries developing peaceful nuclear energy. Joining this body will allow Ukrainian experts to participate in work on new technological solutions and gain access to best practices in industry regulation.
Deepening interaction with the NEA is also viewed as an important tool for the modernization of the domestic energy sector. Attaining full member status will facilitate the engagement of expert assistance and international support for the safe operation of Ukraine’s nuclear power facilities.
Integration processes in the energy sector
Cooperation with leading Western organizations is part of a broader government strategy aimed at aligning national energy standards with European ones. Expanding contacts with the Agency will provide better access to international scientific potential, which is essential for the stable operation of energy infrastructure.
The commencement of the accession process is the result of preliminary diplomatic efforts aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s position in the global nuclear technology market. It is expected that participation in the work of NEA committees will provide additional guarantees for technological development and safety in nuclear energy.
