Foreign Minister Anita Anand will push for restrictions due to nuclear risks in Zaporizhzhia
Canada plans to initiate the expansion of sanctions against the russian federation during the upcoming meeting of G7 foreign ministers. Ottawa will present this position both at the G7 level and at the G20 summit in December. This was reported by Ukrinform, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada Anita Anand stated that she will soon depart for Paris, where the G7 foreign ministers’ meeting will take place. The official intends to urge partners to strengthen joint restrictive measures against moscow.
Escalation around nuclear facilities
The reason for the increased sanctions pressure is the behavior of the russian federation, specifically the shelling of Komyshuvakha. Anita Anand emphasized that russian actions near the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant pose an immediate threat to thousands of people and demand a tougher response from the international community.
The head of the Canadian foreign ministry stressed that the issue of sanctions will definitely be brought to the agenda of the G20 meeting in December. The presence of russian representatives at this event makes collective discussions regarding restrictions critically important for stability.
Previous sanctions activity
Canada continues to consistently increase restrictive measures against the russian federation. Back in September of this year, the country’s government expanded the list of sanctioned individuals, including those involved in violating the rights of Ukrainian children.
