Ukraine’s Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal reported 18 strikes on energy infrastructure within a single day
First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal stated that Ukraine’s energy facilities sustained 18 strikes in the past 24 hours. He made the statement during an online call with Germany’s Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, Katrin Reiche. This was reported by Ukrinform, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
Continuing agreements between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz, the ministers discussed additional support for Ukraine’s energy sector.
Shmyhal emphasized that partner support is critically vital now, as Russia systematically destroys Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. In the last 24 hours alone, Ukrainian energy facilities sustained 18 strikes.
Reconstruction and Protection Priorities
“Our priorities: replenishing reserves of power equipment and strengthening protection, especially at power line crossings over the Dnipro. We have agreed with partners on financial support for procurement of materials needed for restoration work. We also count on the delivery of transformers, turbines, and generators, including those manufactured by German producers,” Shmyhal said.
Diplomatic Pressure on Russia
The parties also agreed to coordinate diplomatic efforts to pressure Russia over a recent attack on a substation critical to the operation of the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant.
“Thank you, Katrin Reiche, and the German government for their clear and consistent stance in supporting Ukraine and our energy resilience. We appreciate the already provided assistance — over €806 million in contributions to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund and 363 humanitarian shipments of power equipment totaling approximately 3,794 tons,” Shmyhal noted.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia used 172 drones and 36 ballistic missiles, all targeting Kyiv and its region. According to him, in addition to Kyiv, 12 regions were hit overnight.
Air defense forces intercepted four missiles and 149 drones. Russia attacked overnight the grids transmitting electricity from nuclear power plants to Kyiv, Kyiv Oblast, and central Ukraine.
