Far-right party proposes a joint venture to operate the Nord Stream pipeline
Germany's far-right Alternative for Germany party plans to organize a tripartite meeting with representatives from Russia and the United States while excluding Ukraine. The event is scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi in the spring of 2027 under the premise of helping resolve the war. This was reported by Glavcom citing Le Monde, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
Details of the proposed initiative were announced by Markus Frohnmaier, deputy chairman of the party’s parliamentary group and member of the Bundestag Foreign Affairs Committee. He stated that the diplomatic platform aims to facilitate the settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
Preparatory coordination with the American side is reportedly handled by Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund and special representative of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. However, Washington has not officially confirmed its readiness to participate in the summit.
The US Department of State did not respond to media inquiries regarding potential participation by American officials. Dmitriev previously mentioned plans to meet AfD figures in December and discussed holding a broader forum in the second quarter of 2027 without detailing its agenda or location.
Demands to Relaunch Nord Stream Pipeline
Economic and energy relations between Berlin, Moscow, and Washington are envisioned by the German far-right as the central topics of the proposed dialogue. AfD actively advocates for the resumption of Russian natural gas supplies to Germany via the Nord Stream pipeline infrastructure.
Party leaders propose placing management of this pipeline network under a joint German-American enterprise. Additionally, the political force calls for the unconditional lifting of international economic sanctions imposed against Russia.
Among other concessions to the Kremlin, parliamentary faction members demand the reintegration of Russia into the G7 grouping of advanced economies. The far-right also seeks the immediate reinstatement of Russian athletes in all international sporting events.
Pressure on Kyiv and Territorial Boundaries
Regarding Ukraine, the party demands an immediate halt to German state assistance, which has exceeded €100 billion since the start of the full-scale invasion. AfD views financial support as leverage that should be used to compel Kyiv into talks with Moscow.
Furthermore, the party opposes demands to restore Ukraine’s pre-war borders, including the return of occupied Crimea. The German federal government previously considered restricting AfD politicians from accessing classified defence files, including military contingency plans designed for a potential Russian invasion.
