Russian Strikes Cause Blackouts Across Six Regions and Cut Off ZNPP

Temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP loses power for the 16th time this year

Overnight and into the morning of November 8, Russian forces launched renewed attacks against energy facilities, causing power outages across Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomyr, Rivne, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv regions. The temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant lost external power and switched to emergency diesel generators. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing the Telegram channel of Ukrenergo.

Recovery teams across the affected territories are carrying out repairs in areas where current security conditions permit. Repair operations and the restoration of power supplies are being held back by repeated enemy strikes and frequent air raid alerts.

As a result of hostile shelling, the Zaporizhzhia NPP has once again been disconnected from the unified electrical grid. On-site power for critical safety systems was transferred to backup diesel generators. This marks the sixteenth full loss of external power at the occupied nuclear facility since the beginning of this year.

Emergency Power Cuts in East and Central Regions

The operational situation is most acute in Dnipropetrovsk Region. Extensive strikes severely damaged a number of critical grid facilities, prompting emergency power shutdowns that will remain in effect until network operations stabilise.

Emergency consumption caps have also been enforced by distribution system operators across Kharkiv, Sumy, and Poltava regions.

Grid Bottlenecks in the Capital Area

Network conditions remain difficult in the Kyiv metropolitan area. Substantial destruction of critical transmission infrastructure has necessitated network transfer limits, while line crews conduct non-stop repairs at impacted sites.

Energy specialists point out that grid stability may fluctuate throughout the day due to continuous attacks, advising customers to follow regular updates from regional distribution operators.
