Civil drone defense teams have begun to operate at Ukrainian ports and at Ukrzaliznytsia railway facilities. Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Community and Territorial Development Oleksiy Kuleba told Uraua.info. The PromPolitInform portal reports.

“It is in the ports and at Ukrzaliznytsia that we are introducing the first teams that, in accordance with the resolution approved by the government, will be able to and are already performing certain tasks to shoot down drones, while not being military, but members of DFTG [volunteer formations of territorial communities],” the government official said.

According to Kuleba, Ukraine’s logistics system has turned out to be a priority target for the enemy.

“For our part, together with the military, we are doing everything we can to protect our infrastructure,” he said.

Since June 2025, a pilot project has been launched in Ukraine aimed at strengthening the country’s air defense. Its goal is to attract motivated citizens to the defense system who are able to increase the effectiveness of air defense in conditions of increased threat. All citizens of Ukraine aged 18 and over who live in areas where DFTGs operate are invited to participate. To participate, you must pass a medical, professional and psychological selection, and not be subject to mobilization. In addition, owners of private aircraft can join the project.

To join the air defense units, you must first join a volunteer detachment. After that, a three-year contract is concluded.
