Ukrzaliznytsia launches flexible ticket prices: what will the cost depend on from April 25

Ukrzaliznytsia is introducing dynamic pricing for tickets in the premium segment — the cost of travel in SV (luxury) and 1st class cars of Intercity trains will change depending on demand. Sales at new rates will begin from April 25. The Page reports this, the PromPolitInform portal reports.

The relevant order has undergone public discussions and is coming into force. The changes will affect less than 10% of passengers — those traveling in premium class. Tariffs for 2nd class tickets, compartment and reserved seats cars remain unchanged — the state has not revised them since 2021.

What will determine the price of a Ukrzaliznytsia ticket?

The cost of tickets in the SV and 1st class Intercity cars will be calibrated according to four factors:

Seasonality – 16 seasonality zones according to the holiday and vacation calendar. During off-peak periods, when trains are 70–80% full, tickets will be cheaper; during peak months, such as August, they will be more expensive;

Day of the week – the lowest prices are on Tuesday and Wednesday, the highest – on Friday and Sunday, when demand is maximum;

Advance purchase – tickets purchased in advance will cost cheaper. Currently, almost 30% of passengers buy tickets on the day of travel or two days in advance – the new approach will encourage planning trips in advance;

Train occupancy – if the train is 90–100% full, the price may be higher; if there are free seats before departure, the price will be reduced. This mechanism requires further development of IT systems and will be implemented separately.

What will change in international trains of Ukrzaliznytsia

Tariffs for travel in SV (luxury) cars of international trains will be indexed by approximately 20%. Tickets will be sold at the new tariffs for departure dates starting from April 18, 2026.

Seats in SV cars of international trains are traditionally bought up the fastest – which indicates increased demand in this segment.

For 1st and 2nd class tickets of Intercity and compartment cars of international trains, Ukrzaliznytsia decided to leave the cost unchanged – so that Ukrainians who are abroad can visit or return home more often.
