EU leaders in Cyprus discussed the issue of enlargement of the bloc and military support with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. An EU official told a correspondent of “European Truth“, the PromPolitInform portal reports.
The leaders welcomed the adoption of the latest decision to unblock a loan of 90 billion euros and the 20th package of sanctions.
“The next step will be EU enlargement: all conditions for opening the first negotiation clusters on accession in the coming weeks and months,” the official said.
Several leaders also mentioned the importance of strengthening bilateral efforts, in particular on military support.
The leaders are currently discussing the conflict in the Middle East and its consequences, in particular on energy prices.
European Council President Antonio Costa welcomed the approval of a €90 billion loan for Ukraine and the 20th package of sanctions and stated the need to prepare the next step.
Foreign Minister Andriy Szybiga previously expressed hope that the failure of Viktor Orbán’s regime in Hungary gives Ukraine a chance to accelerate its path to the European Union.
As reported, in March, European Commissioner Kos declared all clusters “unofficially open” for Ukraine.
