Ukraine is building up engineering fortifications and building a layered defense. The goal is to prevent a breakthrough of the Russian Federation and the creation of a “buffer zone” near the border.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine are erecting a continuous defensive line along the northern border to protect against a possible new offensive by the Russian Federation. Large-scale fortifications cover the direction to Sumy.
This was told in an interview with Ukrinform by the head of the engineering troops of the Command of the APU Support Forces, Brigadier General Vasily Sirotenko, informs the portal PromPolitInform.
According to General Sirotenko, Sumy in a short time was able to create a full-fledged layered defense system, which provides for several consecutive lines of defense to deter a possible enemy offensive.
“In a short period, I was able to prepare a truly layered and stable defense. And it’s noticed, and it’s seen, and it’s even seen from space. You can see in real time how it is built,” he said.
Strengthen the border from Kyiv to Sumy
In parallel, Ukraine continues to build a large-scale solid line of defense from the Kyiv reservoir to Sumy. It is not about individual fortifications, but about an integrated defensive system, the creation of which involves significant resources and forces.
The main purpose of this defense infrastructure is to prevent a sudden Russian offensive from the north, to prevent the creation of the so-called “buffer zone” and to maintain the control of Ukrainian forces over the border areas.
“This line of defense is being built, and a lot of forces and means are being paid precisely to build it as soon as possible,” General Sirotenko explained.
